My inspiration comes from nature and historic architecture.
I am a Canadian artist living in Ontario. My previous homes have been in Quebec, the Maritimes and England. Traveling throughout Scotland, Wales and the island of Jersey, the northeastern USA, Barbados, Southern France and Paris, Italy, and Alaska have provided an unending source of inspiration.
The soundless flight of a Tawny Owl hunting at dusk in The Lake District; a Great Horned Owl trapped in a maple tree by a flock of sparrows in Halifax; feeling unnerved by a Great Horned Owl peering down at me from her nest hidden high in a tree on a bitterly cold day in Short Hills Provincial Park in Southern Ontario; a rabbit hopping onto my sandals and gently kissing my toes at Marten River Provincial Park in Northern Ontario – these are the interactions with the natural world that inspire my love for capturing nature’s creations and landscapes.
Owls feature prominently in my pyrography and carving although other creatures both realistic and fanciful creep into my works, too.
Acrylics and watercolours allow me to escape into more diverse worlds.
I am grateful to so many artists who continue to provide in-person and online education helping me to develop in new ways. This is a welcome change from a career in health care and education. An artistic life is one of never-ending adventure!
Enjoy travelling in the real and imaginary world with me!
Artist’s Statement
I am a self-directed learner in various mediums including pyrography (woodburning), carving, acrylic and watercolour paintings. After a career as an Occupational Therapist and educator, I turned to creative activities which compliment my love of animals, nature, the environment, and history. Travel into real and imaginary places with me.
